Conner's Field Trip, what a day! October 26, 2010

George and his mom, Christopher, Javarius, Aryana and her mom, Triniti and Lauren's mom!
After trying to follow some very misleading directions, we all arrived at the corn maze/farm! We all took a hay ride, that coincidentally involved no hay, to feed some very hungry cows! We had a great time at the FARM!

Emily and Kyra in Miss Boo Hoo

We all rode a very fast and bumpy cow ride pulled by a tractor and some students got to try their skills on the peddle cars!

Before getting back on the bus, we found our way through the corn maze! We made up a class cheer that was definitly the best that farm has heard in while!
ELA is a-maze-ing, ELA is a-maze-ing!

Life in the Portable!

Today our classroom is being painted so we are spending our day in a portable classroom!
We are having so much fun learning in a new environment! It feels like a "camp out"!!!!
We are learning about fall! We had reading time outside and listened to a story about a scarecrow!
Then we made our own scarecrows! What a fun day together!
Maybe we can plan another day to come to the portable...just for fun!!!!

Art in the classroom

The art room was painted on Friday so we had art in our classroom. Mrs. De Gram came to our class and taught us how to draw a sea turtle and a coral reef!!!! It was so much fun and we learned so much!!!!!

BOM

October's book of the month is Miss Alaineus- A Vocabulary Disaster. Each day at ELA Mrs. Darby (our assistant principal) gives us a word of the day! yesterday the word was astonishment and today it was courageous! We used these new vocabulary words in our writing today!
We also had fun reading the new book of the month!
This book is the BOM!!!! (Book of the Month) :)
Modestus was "astonished' when he went outside at night and saw Jupiter!

Siya was "astonished" to find out her sister stole her DS.

We can't wait to find out what Monday's vocabulary word will be!!!!

Writing Wednesday

Narrative Writing-
We have been writing personal narratives in Writer's Workshop! (Stories about us)
Today the students chose a story from their writing folder that needed improvements. They added punctuation, capitalization, time cue words, important information, or details where needed. Here are some of our stories!
"First me and my mom went to the MOSH. I learned history. I learned history about a humans body. I had a good time." -Brady

"First I go to play with my pet. I throw a ball. He threw the ball I had a fun day today. I went in to have more fun! I danced with my brother. My mom told me and my brother we dance good and I was happy too!"

Terrific Tuesday

Today was picture day at ELA! Everyone smiled a great big smile for the camera!!! We went to PE today with Coach K and got some good exercise! The manteria has been a noisy place lately so we have not earned another green since we last saw our "pirate manatee" friend! Oh and by the way...we named him "Captain"! Fitting huh??? Maybe we can try harder tomorrow and Captain will swim our way soon! We wrote some excellent stories in Writer's Workshop and visited the computer lab this morning! By the end of the week we will try to post some of our narratve writing to share with you!

Lauren and Makenzie made -it family books.
Emily did a math assignment on Destination Success.
Today we had a great day at school. We really enjoyed learning in our literacy centers. Literacy centers are used to "practice" a skill or topic that has already been taught in a previous lesson. We get to work with a partner! Some of our favorites are listening, library, computers, and art! School is so much fun!

Christopher and Cynthia listened to a book and wrote about their favorite part.
Caleb and George made and completed patterns.

Khalil and Aryana visited the science books in the classroom library.

Yesterday in the "manateria" we had excellent behavior and were allowed to choose a manatee trophy to spend the day in our classroom! The poor injured manatee that we chose, unfortunately had lost an eye. We assume he was hurt in a boating accident. We loved him so much that we made an eye patch for his injury. Now he is famous in the "manteria" and everybody wants to spend a day with our new "pirate" friend!!!!
